Slightly elevated levels of methane and carbon monoxide concentrations were shown by measurements with a gas analyzer of the Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water - Haskovo after the fire in the car morgue in Harmanli yesterday evening. The substances do not exceed the maximum permissible values for atmospheric air quality, the environmental inspection announced.
The measurements were carried out with a mobile laboratory in the area of the fire, which broke out at 5:00 p.m. on August 9 in the villa area and entered the car morgue with 150 scrapped cars. The situation was brought under control in about three hours thanks to the quick intervention of the firefighters.
Only the quick intervention of the firefighters and the fact that the cars had their batteries and tires removed prevented an environmental disaster. "The values measured with a gas analyzer are within the norm. There is no air pollution in the city from the burning of waste on the affected terrain", announced the Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water - Haskovo.
The waste treatment site, managed by "Miki Group" OOD, has a permit for activities with waste from VEHICLES, waste from ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, paper and cardboard, issued by the Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water - Haskovo.
During the inspections carried out so far, no violations under the Waste Management Act have been found, the environmental inspection adds. The fire affected a dozen properties and one uninhabited villa in the area, but there is no danger to people.
The Regional Health Inspectorate is also monitoring the situation and monitoring air quality in the affected area.
