Forget about the budget associations and urban compromises that the Terrano name has evoked in recent years. In Beijing, Nissan dropped a real bombshell, resurrecting the legendary nameplate on a machine that not only looks tough, but is ready to shake up the hierarchy in the serious SUV segment. This time, the Japanese are not playing it safe with another crossover, but are bringing out the heavy artillery – a conceptual SUV with a classic “body-on-frame“ design, aimed right at the heart of the territory dominated by the Land Cruiser Prado.
It is clear from the first glance that the new Nissan Terrano has completely broken with its past as a rebranded Dacia Duster. The designers have opted for a brutal, almost architectural silhouette, dominated by sharp edges and impressive ground clearance. The short overhangs and the massive protective bumper scream for off-road adventures, while the front optical group is a true technological jewel. The rectangular LED strips create a light signature that is reminiscent of the classic Jeep aesthetics, but with a modern, Japanese flavor. On the roof we find solid rails with integrated lighting, which complement the image of an uncompromising expedition vehicle.
While the interior still remains shrouded in mystery, the technical architecture beneath the sheet metal is fully revealed and, frankly, respectable. At the heart of the machine lies the proven chassis of the Frontier Pro pickup. This solution guarantees not only strength under heavy loads, but also access to extremely serious power. Under the hood, a hybrid configuration pulses, combining a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline unit with a powerful electric motor. The result? An astonishing 429 horsepower and a monstrous 800 Nm of torque. With such indicators, the new Terrano definitely has a chance to get back into the game.
