Mercedes-Benz W123, manufactured in 1986, was discovered with a record mileage. The car continues to drive on the roads of Spain and the car has already traveled seven million kilometers.
This Mercedes 240D W123 in the extended (6.1m) seven-seater Lang version works for one of the taxi services on the island of Gran Canaria. Its owner Domingo bought the used car in 1988.
Since the Canary Islands are a tourist region, Domingo has enough customers that allows him to travel an average of about 700 kilometers per day. In this mode, the Mercedes 240D diesel engine oil is changed 52 times a year.
This equates to once a week (every 5000 km). Domingo takes good care of his car and maintains it regularly, although the 2.4 liter 72 horsepower diesel engine has been replaced once.
Domingo and his Mercedes W123 have already become a local legend. Thanks to this car, the Spaniard even managed to create his own taxi service. In 35 years, the iconic vehicle has traveled a distance equivalent to 175 circumnavigations.
In 2008, Domingo set about restoring his Mercedes 240D with the idea of handing over the business to his son. At that time, the mileage of the car was 3.8 million kilometers. It is then that some of the biggest changes to the car are required.
Parts from the newer Mercedes W124 were used in the restoration. In addition, the body has been strengthened and the interior has been modernized. As already mentioned, the car's engine was also changed.
By the way, the Volvo P1800 with a mileage of 5.15 million kilometers is currently listed in the Guinness Book of Records. However, it should be noted that this car is completely original and without spare parts from other models.
