BMW sales rise despite drop in demand for electric cars - 1

Sales of BMW electric cars rose sharply in the second quarter. The luxury car brand continues to outperform its direct competitors such as Porsche and Audi.

In the first half of 2024, BMW sold 179,557 electric cars, which is 34.1% more than in the first six months of 2023. In total, since the beginning of the year, the company has sold 1,096,486 cars, which is 2.3% more than the same period last year.

Together with MINI and Rolls-Royce, deliveries reached 1,213,359 cars. In addition to electric cars, models in the higher premium segment are selling well. Sales of the BMW 7 Series increased by 22% in the first half of the year compared to the same period last year.

„In the first six months of the year, we saw double-digit growth in our all-electric cars and models in the higher premium segment. Despite the difficult market environment, we increased sales of the BMW brand in the first half of the year thanks to our attractive product portfolio, “ says BMW AG Board of Directors member Jochen Gohler.

BMW expects the momentum to continue with the introduction of new electric car models such as the i4 and iX2. The brand also plans to strengthen its leadership position with modern electric vehicles from the Neue Klasse.

As Electrek points out, BWM is doing much better than its main competitors. Sales of Porsche's electric cars have collapsed after deliveries of the Taycan fell 51% in the first half of the year.

Mercedes-Benz also reported that sales of electric vehicles fell by 25%. Only 45,800 electric cars were delivered in the second quarter. Sales of Audi electric cars were almost unchanged in the second quarter of the year.
