The first units of the plug-in hybrid version of the sixth generation Honda CR-V arrived in Bulgaria at the height of the summer season. The official premiere before the general public will take place during the Sofia Motor Show 2024. The e:PHEV variant is only front-wheel drive, but it, like the full hybrid, also has a snow mode. It is visually distinguished from the CR-V e:FHEV by the layout of the wide openings of its radiator grille.

The drive system

The internal combustion engine in both versions is a gasoline, 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder, direct injection Atkinson cycle with a max. power 148 hp It is combined with a powerful electric motor with a maximum of 184 hp

Developed on the basis of the already proven e:HEV system for self-charging hybrids, the e:PHEV battery has a larger capacity (17.7 kWh) and a lightweight built-in charger. This increased electrical assistance means the engine can run at lower revs and is much quieter and more economical. The high-voltage battery also allows a range of 81 km in electric mode only. Accordingly, the values are already 18 g/km of harmful emissions and consumption of only 0.8 l/100 km with a fully charged battery. With a full charge drop, the values will increase, as in this case the car becomes a traditional hybrid, comparable to the e:HEV variant with front-wheel drive.

The two versions have the same dimensions, but against the background of the extremely low fuel consumption of the plug-in hybrid version, its tank has a volume of only 46.5 liters compared to 57 liters for the full hybrid.

Load

The charging port is located above the front left fender and opens with a push of the cover. In the e:PHEV system, the charge control unit is connected to the battery heater and this is a great solution in cold weather with sub-zero temperatures. When the temperature of the high-voltage battery is 25 degrees, the new CR-V achieves a 100 percent charge in just 2.5 hours, thanks to the power of the charger of 6.8 kW.

As part of the connected services for the e:PHEV system, users can pre-plan charging to happen at the most convenient time and at the most advantageous electricity prices.

The safest CR-V

For both versions it is true that this is the safest CR-V thanks to the new body construction and improved technologies. This is the first car with Honda SENSING 360, a package of assistants and systems operating in a 360-degree radius.

The e:PHEV version features an additional floor cross member for increased protection of the Intelligent Power Unit (IPU) and passengers in the event of a side impact. There are a total of 11 airbags, including a front central one to protect the passenger and the driver in the event of an impact between their bodies. Another new one is available for the knees in the area of the front two seats.
