In the US, RM Sotheby's is auctioning a 1972 Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedan. Organizers plan to get $125,000 to $175,000 for the luxury car. Details about it were announced on the website of the auction house .

Usually, Mercedes-Benz S-Klasse W108 is much cheaper, but this particular car is valuable because it belonged to the famous actor Steve McQueen - the star of the films "The Magnificent Seven", "Bullitt", "The Big escape", "The Butterfly" and many others.

Steve McQueen, who died in 1980 at the age of 50, was a regular car racer and collector of sports cars during his lifetime. In his garage were Ferrari 275 GTB, Porsche 917, Jaguar XKSS, Ford GT40.

Of course, as far as the Mercedes brand is concerned, the actor also chose a sharpened version here - the 300 SEL 6.3 - the ancestor of the modern S63 AMG. The sedan is equipped with a 6.3-liter V8 engine with a capacity of 250 horsepower and a 4-speed automatic gearbox.

This car can accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 220 km/h. At the time, it was also the fastest sedan in the world.

Steve McQueen's son, Chad, notes that the actor really likes the Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3 in question and actively drives it. After the death of the Hollywood star in 1980, the sedan changed its owner several times, and in 2013 it underwent a complete restoration.
