Audi showed the brand's most powerful production car (VIDEO) - 1

Audi debuted its first all-electric RS performance model, which has become a flagship in terms of power, handling and dynamics. The four-door coupe demonstrates Audi's technical expertise and passion for detail. Powerful, sporty and confident, it reflects the brand's high standards for car development and production.

In addition to the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PSM) on the front axle with a reinforced drive shaft and an output of 252 kW (342 hp), the electric Gran Turismo is equipped with a new PSM motor on the rear axle with an output of 415 kW (564 hp). The increased density of copper in the special pin winding in the stator of electric motors maximizes current conduction.

In addition, the rotor in the rear electric motor is more compact and lighter. In total, Audi reduced the weight of the electric motor on the rear axle by ten kilograms. Both electric motors have a reserve of power for dynamic driving situations. Launch Control can briefly use the resources of the high-voltage battery and the electric motors to achieve a power output of up to 680 kW / 925 hp.

The front axle is equipped with modified power electronics with a redesigned pulse inverter that provides higher discharge currents up to 600 amps – 300 amps more than the other variants Audi S e-tron GT and Audi RS e-tron GT. The rear axle also runs at 600 amps. Audi also increases brake recuperation to 400 kW.

Maximum braking speed is 4.5 m/s. Up to this value, the car relies only on recuperation. In this way, Audi widens the gap between the dynamic feel of one-pedal control and efficient momentum.

„This allows us to increase efficiency while responding to what our customers want. When the driver releases the gas pedal, the car noticeably slows down, which makes driving sporty “, says Jaan Mattes Reiling, technical project manager of the Audi e-tron GT model family.

The new battery chemistry is also partly responsible for the increased performance of the RS e-tron GT performance with an adjusted mixing ratio of nickel, cobalt and manganese and a total battery capacity of 105 kWh (97 kWh net). This results in higher power consumption and higher charging and control currents than the previous model. The maximum charging currents have been increased to 400 amps. When Launch Control is activated, current can flow at up to 1,100 amps.

This also applies to the use of the new push-to-pass function in the RS e-tron GT performance, which provides a 70 kW increase in power at speeds above 30 km/h for ten seconds - as indicated by the timer in the virtual cockpit. When the driver activates the push-to-pass function, the battery uses the same map as for Launch Control. At the same time, the drive components are automatically switched to the Audi drive select dynamic mode. After at least ten seconds of regeneration, the function can be activated again.

The maximum charging power has been increased by 50 kW to 320 kW. This allows the vehicle's HV battery to be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes at a High Power Charging (HPC) station under ideal conditions.

Newly developed air suspension with 2-chamber/2-valve technology is standard on the brand's top models. It provides clear advantages in terms of driving dynamics without compromising on comfort. For the first time, an innovative active suspension system with selectable wheels is available as an option.

The Audi drive select dynamic control system allows the driver to control the car's character as usual. There are three profiles: efficiency, comfort and dynamics. In addition, two individually configurable modes RS1 and RS2 allow the driver to select the ride, suspension, ground clearance and sound. The driver can set these modes from the steering wheel.

The Audi RS e-tron GT performance 2 is equipped with 20-inch wheels as standard. Tires optimized for rolling resistance provide longer mileage. The optional 21-inch versions offer five wheel designs and two tires with different characteristics. Bridgestone Potenza Sport tires have very low rolling resistance, which improves energy consumption and mileage.

In the RS e-tron GT performance, the customer can control the sound of the car - from a quiet electric drive to a progressive sound. The sporty, three-dimensional and high-quality e-tron Sport sound is standard. As an aural expression of the progressive character of Gran Turismo, the sound in the cabin has been improved - it has become more harmonious, especially in the idling speed range of 70 to 90 km/h. Two control units and amplifiers in the trunk generate separate exterior and interior sounds, broadcast through two speakers, one outside and one inside the car.

The digital sound is based on data such as the speed of the electric motors, the position of the gas pedal, the speed of the car and other parameters. The result is a synthetic sound from 32 separate sources - from a variety of real recordings to edited synthesized audio - that supports the drive system in an authentic and very subtle way. The new RS e-tron GT performance is produced by Audi Sport GmbH at the Audi plant in Neckarsulm and is now available to order in Europe, with prices starting at €160,500.
