The state is currently functioning in a state of usurped repressive power, to be used against the opposition and the inconvenient - the most striking example of this is the crackdown on Varna Mayor Blagomir Kotsev.
This was stated to the Bulgarian National Radio by the leader of "Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria" and co-chairman of "Democratic Bulgaria" Atanas Atanasov from the PP-DB parliamentary group, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly.
"Since the acting prosecutor general, chairman of the State Agency of National Security, chairman of the Communist Party of Bulgaria serve the ruling party and cannot agree with the president on equidistant figures in these positions, the ruling party resorts to the tool they have with the available majority - by amending the legislation to legalize in these positions persons who are convenient for them, and now they will be titular, not acting ones", he added.
In his words, when it is proposed that the majority in parliament elect the chairmen of the repressive structures, the principles of requiring the political neutrality of these persons are no longer necessary, because a person who is elected by the political majority in parliament cannot be politically neutral, and "in the same way the ruling party has appointed their people in all regulators".
Atanas Atanasov specified that despite the participation of BSP-OL and ITN in the ruling coalition, the main holders of power are GERB and "DPS-New Beginning":
"BSP and ITN sign what is offered to them".
According to him, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov "does not have his own political backbone, and his political backbone is called Delyan Peevski".
The opposition in the 51st National Assembly has its geopolitical contradictions along the east-west axis, but on the topic of justice and internal order it is of one opinion, he emphasized.
The DSB were not informed about the PP's action in front of the parliament on the day of the vote of no confidence, Atanasov announced.
"After two terms of Rumen Radev, who is a staunch supporter of Russian interests, Bulgaria needs a president who is firm supporter of its Euro-Atlantic interests", he emphasized and specified that the DSB proposal is to hold early elections for the entire democratic community:
"If they want GERB, let them join us. We, as a firm opposition to this administration of the GERB mandate holder, cannot cooperate with them for a joint presidential candidacy. However, there is one sign that cooperation could be sought - this is geopolitical orientation. But the other is the fight against corruption, and here we have very serious differences. So I don't see at this stage how we can cooperate."
In connection with the upcoming vote of no confidence, prepared by "Vazrazhdane", on the topic of water shortages in the country, Atanasov stated:
"This is an important topic, but whether we could sign together with "Vazrazhdane" under such a vote - I am skeptical.
