40,000 people in Sofia will be left without hot water from October 2nd amid the forecast for a sharp cold snap. The renovation of the “Toplofikatsiya“ on the threshold of winter, which provoked a series of protests, begins in the capital's “Druzhba 2“ district.

Sylvia Kirova is among the victims. Since she lives in a rented house and is not allowed to carry out repairs in her apartment, she is looking for a flow-through water heater to install directly on the sink.

“The bills will be very high and she will not be able to fully cover her needs with one flow-through water heater. The heating will be a convector, because it is more economical compared to blowers,“ says Silvia.

Stores in the area are already offering a discount on heating appliances and boilers against address registration in “Druzhba“.

According to experts, the repair is overdue, but urgent.

“Toplofikatsiya Sofia“ specified that since the beginning of the year they have replaced over 7,000 meters of pipelines due to accidents.

There have been no planned repairs due to a late-adopted program and a later-adopted municipal budget.

The Minister of Energy has ordered an audit of the network to make sure it will withstand the load in the winter.

Meanwhile, tomorrow residents of “Druzhba“ are going out for another protest.
