The National Security Service (NSS) will no longer provide transportation for the presidential administration. The changes to the law were adopted on second reading with 119 votes "for", 64 "against" and 13 "abstains".
The deputies rejected the proposal of Ivaylo Mirchev and Bozhidar Bozhanov („We continue the change – Democratic Bulgaria“) to eliminate the NSO security for the members of parliament in the event of a specific threat, and more specifically - that of the leader of the „DPS – New Beginning“ Delyan Peevski.
The decision on the presidential administration cars was included as the second item on the agenda after the quorum was restored. At the first attempt, one MP was not enough for the MPs to start work on time. Before that, Dragomir Stoynev from the BSP put the item on the NSP on the agenda as an emergency, and the opposition strongly objected. Petar Petrov from “Vazrazhdane“ stated that such “urgent circumstances” do not exist and called the move a violation of the rules.
The session today began with a blitz control, which was attended by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov and Deputy Prime Ministers Tomislav Donchev and Grozdan Karadjov. After the change in the law on the National Security Agency, the parliament moved to the regular parliamentary control with 17 questions, for which the chairman of the session, Dragomir Stoynev, announced that it would take about three hours.
The vote comes just a day after, in an 11-hour session, the deputies limited the powers of the president, removing the possibility for him to sign decrees on the appointments of the heads of DANS, DAR and DATO.
