"I will make personal efforts to ensure that the guilty, if there are any, receive the strictest punishments provided for by law. I eagerly await the results of the inspections assigned to the DNSK, the Basin Directorate, and the work of the prosecutor's office.
This was stated to the Bulgarian National Radio by Deputy Prime Minister and BSP leader Atanas Zafirov in a comment on the latest floods on the Black Sea coast, which have also claimed human lives.
"And there, as with the problems with water scarcity, everything is due to facts and circumstances accumulated over the years, somewhere most likely passed over lightly. To what extent there is human intervention, a human subjective factor - we have yet to find out. This time, the guilty must really receive the most severe punishments, because all this is repeated with a terrifying cyclicality and leaves people with a feeling of timelessness and lack of a state. This problem, as well as the other one, are a consequence of the long-standing political crisis, which created the conditions for many institutions to simply not do their job," he commented.
The Deputy Prime Minister is sure that adequate measures and solutions will be proposed so that this does not happen again. He did not rule out the possibility of hotels being demolished:
"More negligence and sloppiness will not be tolerated. But first it must become clear who allowed this to happen and then move on to the next steps. If it is established that there are huge illegal buildings, believe that the state is ready to go to the end".
In the program "Nedelya 150" Zafirov called for the authorities to be left to do their job. And he listed the benefits that victims, for whom this is their primary residence, can apply for.
According to him, one of the main reasons for some of the troubles that are happening to us is climate change. From extreme drought, we are moving to natural floods and disasters, he emphasized and added that the state must be ready for both situations.
Zafirov, who heads the Water Board, is categorical that there is no water crisis on a national scale:
"There are settlements with problems in water supply, some of them very serious, chronic. But there are also attempts at suggestions and speculation, including political speculation".
"The rains alleviate the situation to some extent, but it is alleviated primarily by the tireless efforts of the Water and Sewerage teams. These people are literally working around the clock," he pointed out and announced that there is currently no water regime in Pleven. And he reminded the goal - to solve the problem of water supply during the daylight hours by the end of the year.
For him, the problems can be solved in two ways - by searching for new water sources, which is becoming increasingly difficult, and by removing the depreciated water transmission networks, which lead to huge water losses. We need funds, patience, prevention, Atanas Zafirov was categorical and stated:
"Step by step we are moving towards solving the problems".
The BSP leader also commented on the case of Borislav Sarafov. According to him, politics in this case is excessive. According to him, the law adopted by the PP-DB is contradictory.
"We should let the independent judiciary find its own solution and determine the level of legitimacy of each of its institutions," he believes.
