On October 11, repairs to the Burgas lane, 8 kilometers from the “Trakia“ highway in the Pazardzhik district - between the 90th and 98th kilometers - will be completed, the “Road Infrastructure“ Agency (API) announced.
Vehicle traffic will be redirected to the renovated lane, with one lane in the direction of Burgas and one lane for Sofia. Work on the section continues on the Sofia lane. The repair work began on September 24.
The Burgas lane is currently being repaired in sections of the highway and in the Sofia, Stara Zagora and Sliven districts.
In Sofia district, construction work is underway on a 9-kilometer section between the 24th and 33rd kilometers, in Sliven district, 11 kilometers are being repaired between the 262nd and 273rd kilometers, and on October 9, repairs began on the 10-kilometer Burgas lane in Stara Zagora district between the 208th and 218th kilometers. In all sections, traffic flows two-way into the Sofia lane, with one lane for Burgas and one for the capital being separated.
In case of heavy traffic and to increase safety, reverse traffic is being introduced, the RIA also stated. It provides for two lanes for Burgas and one for Sofia or two lanes for those traveling to the capital and one in the direction of Burgas to be organized depending on the traffic load. This organization of traffic will be applied at the discretion of the “Traffic Police“.
During the repairs in the Stara Zagora region, traffic has been stopped at the “Stara Zagora“ road junction at the 208th kilometer. Cars cannot pass along the road connections from the highway to road I-5 in the direction of Stara Zagora, as well as from the first-class road coming from Stara Zagora and Haskovo to the highway in the direction of Burgas. Those traveling in the direction from Sofia to Stara Zagora are redirected from the “Chirpan Iztok“ road junction (km 184+709) along road II-66 to Stara Zagora. A possible detour route for those traveling from Haskovo and Stara Zagora in the direction of Burgas is along the first-class roads I-5 Stara Zagora - Kazanlak and the road I-6 Kazanlak - Burgas.
The technological project for the repair of the section provides for a complete replacement of the asphalt pavement, drainage activities, renewal of signs and restriction systems, new markings, etc. Under good weather conditions, the estimated completion date for the repair in the Stara Zagora region is October 31.
The repair activities have been assigned under the contract for the current repair and maintenance of the “Trakia“ Motorway to “Automagistrali“ EAD. On October 9, repair of the lane in the direction of Burgas, Stara Zagora region from 208 to 218 km of the motorway began.
