The student Andrey Dimitrov was fined 50 leva for placing figures of children next to the zebra crossing where 15-year-old Filip died, and four other dangerous pedestrian crossings in Sofia. Two of the figures lasted only one day, as they were broken by vandals.
The initiative “Sofia - a city for children” is the youth “RED Association”. 10 life-size children's figures were placed within it.
The campaign aims to draw the attention of institutions and the general public to road safety issues, increase accident prevention and improve the quality of road markings in the capital, the youth organization said.
“We created the figures with the help of friends, and their idea is to show institutions and Sofia residents how important it is to improve road safety and to remind them that everyone behind the wheel is responsible. And at the heart of all this are the “invisible children” - the children who will never get home because drivers did not see them on the road. How many more children's rooms need to be empty before the institutions can take action and someone takes measures in this country,” said Andrey Dimitrov, founder of "RED Association".
