Prof. Stoyan Denchev: The Euro Could Bring Down the Government - 1

"The internal conditions that would be a prerequisite for continuing to a full term would, first of all, be the introduction of the euro. An increase in prices or an uncontrolled jump in prices in the first month – this could lead to internal turmoil, and it could also lead to the fall of the government due to various internal disputes," said in an interview with the Bulgarian National Radio, the former rector of the University of Library Science and Information Technologies in Sofia, Stoyan Denchev, a former MP from the MRF.

"As you can see, we do not have a strong enough and united opposition that could bring down the government. If it falls, there are two options for this – if someone involved in the government leaves, or strongly expressed popular discontent, through many protests with many people", Denchev predicted in the program "12+3".

According to him, GERB has the right to lead in the National Assembly and society, as it has grounds for this:

"Because it showed the highest result in the elections. But there is consideration for other people's opinions and as Borisov said, "this is necessary in order to preserve the integrity of the government and to have a smooth transition from lev to euro". We must take another factor into account - these are the sanctions from Trump, on the only refinery in our country. And if there is a problem with a lack of fuel and an increase in prices, it will also cause problems in the country and GERB must deal with other factors".

Prof. Denchev explained that Peevski has never had to take on a leadership role, "they give it to him":

"First, with the constant chewing of his name by the opposition, on the one hand, and on the other - taking into account the possibility of supporting the government. We could not blame Peevski for exercising his power. It cannot be denied that Peevski is smart, he takes into account the situation, imposes his views by retreating from positions of power. Every party that is in the National Assembly must strive for power and Peevski fulfills the democratic orders to exercise power, as much as they allow him - the other political entities, the opposition is against him. And everyone in the coalition government gives him the opportunity to exercise his power functions based on his qualities, which are not to be ignored at all".
