Krum Zarkov: Bulgaria will enter the eurozone in about 30 days! There will be no referendum - 1

Former Minister of Justice Krum Zarkov stated on Nova TV that the case of the referendum to postpone the introduction of the euro represents a precedent only with regard to the actions of the Speaker of the National Assembly, and not the issue itself. According to him, the Constitutional Court has clearly indicated that such an issue is inadmissible, but has specified that the decision must be made by the parliament, and not by its speaker alone.

Zarkov stressed that Bulgaria "in about 30 days" will enter the eurozone and there will be no referendum, and the political opposition between the presidency and parliament prevents the country from extracting maximum benefits from the process.

Regarding Natalia Kiselova's criticism that President Rumen Radev acted provocatively, Zarkov commented that as Speaker of the National Assembly she had fulfilled a political role that was convenient for the ruling majority.

The former minister also revealed the reason for leaving the post of legal advisor to the president — disagreement with his decision to submit the issue of a referendum to the National Assembly despite the legal opinion that it contradicts constitutional practice.

Commenting on the statement of BSP MP Atanas Atanasov that his name is being discussed as a possible presidential candidate, Zarkov stated that "no one has spoken to him about such a thing" and stressed that he cannot be a candidate for the DPS or political forces affiliated with it.

He defined the upcoming presidential elections next year as a possible "clash between the status quo and those who fight against it".

Zarkov also commented on the protests around the budget, indicating that the financial framework is "inertial" and is reminiscent of budgets from periods of caretaker governments and permanent elections. According to him, there is a lack of political vision that would justify the individual expenses.

Regarding the tension surrounding the acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov, Zarkov warned of a "total collapse" in the institutional authority of the prosecutor's office if it continues to ignore court decisions.
