Atanas Atanasov: We are in a state of facade democracy - 1

We are in a state of facade democracy, commented the chairman of “Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria” Atanas Atanasov in Targovishte. He met today with fellow party members and residents of the regional center, as part of the presentation of the “Ask.bg“ platform in the country, BTA reports.

Together with Atanasov in the regional city were Katya Paneva – member of the National Council of the DSB and chairman of the election headquarters, and Lyudmila Ilieva – deputy chairman of the party. In Targovishte, they were welcomed by the regional leader – Dr. Hristo Hristov.

In front of the city residents, Atanasov spoke about the war in Ukraine and how it affects the state of Europe. “Budgetary spending is starting to increase throughout the EU, so that financial resources can be poured into the defense sector. Because it is not known how far all this will go. The attempts by the American administration to seek a peaceful solution at this stage are not yielding results. And there are already about 1 million victims on both sides, infrastructure destroyed. This is a terrifying story and has a sharp impact on the EU standard”, he said. Atanasov also noted that it is precisely because of the war that a large part of the budget in our country, which is directed to the security services, is justified by the war. “Although I am convinced that the rulers are directing these funds to guarantee their own backs. They are counting on retaining power through the security structures,” said Atanasov.

The DSB leader also commented on the domestic political situation in our country. He cited Ivan Kostov’s definition from 20 years ago – “we are in a state of facade democracy,” because there are institutions, there is a National Assembly, where laws are passed, but the decisions are made elsewhere – not in the National Assembly. Even less in the government,” Atanasov pointed out.

According to Atanas Atanasov, the Prime Minister is a very well-educated person who has accompanied Borisov for many years, but he behaves like a “straw man.” “He does not make the decisions, nor does the government make the decisions. The decisions are made by Borisov and Peevski – these are the people who govern the country. Everything down there just pushes buttons. "They do not want to hear any arguments from the opposition, not in any of the spheres of governance of the country," Atanasov said.

In Targovishte, the DSB leader noted that in the context of the upcoming presidential elections, the forces of the democratic community must be mobilized and a unified, non-partisan candidate - a broad-spectrum figure - must be nominated in order to change the status quo. "This will be a battle that will determine the future of Bulgaria," he believes.
