The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria has not received official information from the Serbian authorities regarding the “arrest of Bulgarian spies” and “dismantled Bulgarian spy network” on the territory of the neighboring country. This was stated by Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev regarding the allegations of Aleksandar Vulin, a BGNES reporter reported.
The former Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia and former director of the Serbian Information and Security Agency (BIA), who is one of the closest associates of President Aleksandar Vucic, made serious accusations against Bulgaria. In his statement, disseminated by the Serbian media, Vulin claims that a “Bulgarian spy network” has been dismantled on the territory of Serbia. He also made insulting comments towards our country, calling it an “occupier“ that should “light candles and ask for forgiveness“ from Belgrade.
Minister Georgiev recalled that Serbia is not only our immediate neighbor, but also, as a result of various historical upheavals, is also home to an autochthonous Bulgarian national minority. He emphasized that Bulgaria is developing its bilateral relations with Serbia by adhering to the principles of good neighborliness and cooperation.
“The statements of Alexander Vulin, leader of the parliamentaryly represented “Socialist Movement“ and current Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the state gas company “Serbiagaz“, rather illustrate how easily our bilateral relations can become the target of ill-intentioned political campaigns or suggestions“, said the head of Bulgarian diplomacy.
We recall that over the past few years, leading Serbian statesmen and politicians, including President Vučić and Vulin, have repeatedly made offensive statements against Bulgaria. In our northwestern neighbor, an organized campaign with “hate speech“ is being waged against Bulgarians, who are presented as “monsters”. Vulin officially declares the termination of negotiations for EU membership and Serbia's accession to BRICS. He has been awarded the highest Russian awards. According to Alexander Vulin, “nothing can stop the hegemonic project in the Balkans “Serbian World“.
