The protest was announced against the budget and did an exceptionally good job for us. From the first day of the budget plan from GERB, we have said that it is bad and compromise, coalition, we have not defended it. Colleagues, partners, employers and unions have publicly returned the process to the way it should have been a month ago. This was said by GERB leader Boyko Borisov.
According to him, the police handled the protest very well and he is categorically against the resignation of the Minister of the Interior. "Yesterday I had over 100 conversations. I asked my friends why they were at the protest, and they asked if I was also against the budget. Then I gathered the coalition in an expanded format, together with the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance. I thank the unions and employers for agreeing to make all budget discussions public so that we can see where the "piggy banks" are. We will cut capital expenditures again to balance the fiscal framework. There was a protest against the budget in France, and it helped a lot there," Borisov explained.
The GERB leader also commented on the unrest at the December 1 protest. "I want to divide the protest into two - I want to congratulate the first part. They did a great job. The second part is a completely different topic - everyone has realized what kind of people they would actually like to rule the country. The vandals were organized and if the police had acted differently, there would be talk about the innocent blood shed. The protest deliberately grew into a movement in the streets so that all localities could join. The demands to overthrow the government are from the opposition, not the protesters. The government should categorically not resign. PP-DB has distanced itself from us, they forgot about the assembly", he emphasized.
Borisov noted that today GERB turns 19 years old. And he took stock. "Everything good in Sofia has been done by our party since the 90s. Metro, boulevards, parks, fountains, water treatment plants, we have done everything. 19-year-olds do not know what was before us", he pointed out.
