Tension arose in front of the “Kronoshpan“ plant in Veliko Tarnovo, after representatives of the Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water arrived on site early in the morning. They took action to seal the production due to established air pollution, Nova TV reported.
The company's management reacted by calling the police and representatives of the prosecutor's office. According to the company, the actions of the environmental inspectorate are unlawful, since the Administrative Court in Burgas has canceled a previous order to suspend the activity.
Nevertheless, the RIEW - Veliko Tarnovo has again entered the plant and sealed the production of particleboard (chipboard) in two places. The environmental inspectorate points out that the decision of the court in Burgas does not automatically cancel the implementation of the imposed measure and that an appeal is pending before the Supreme Administrative Court. The plant will not operate until the final decision.
The Minister of Environment and Water, Manol Genov, stated that the measure is not the result of a one-time or momentary decision. According to him, over the years, numerous signals have been received, reports and assessments have been prepared about unpleasant odors and the impact of the enterprise on the environment. Genov also emphasized that pressure has been exerted on the institutions.
At this moment, the wood processing plant in Veliko Tarnovo remains sealed, despite the cancellation of the previous order by the Administrative Court in Burgas.
