Hinovski: The Belene project was managed by incompetent people and that's why it ended up in this mess - 1

The "Belene" project was managed by incompetent people and that's why it ended up in this mess. We propose that this project be reviewed because the risk analysis shows that in 2040 there is a serious possibility that we will be left without a single operating nuclear unit in Bulgaria. This was said by the chairman of the Bulgarian Energy and Mining Forum, Ivan Hinovski, in the program "Bulgaria, Europe and the World in Focus" on Radio FOCUS.

The problem with the "Belene" project, in his words, is transparency and the entry of investors who would guarantee the effective use of the funds. "If there is 100% state funding, this project will raise suspicions of corruption and inflated costs. The project needs to be reformatted. We have held talks with many Western companies that want to participate in this project. This scheme for the state to build the "Belene" NPP will no longer be offered", said Hinovski.

The reactors that Bulgaria has have a resource of 60 years after commissioning. "Until commissioning, the equipment does not age, as it is entirely mechanical. If the steel is stored well, its use can begin after 10 years and safety is not compromised. Safety indicators depend largely on the control systems of these reactors, and they were neither bought, nor delivered, nor designed", explained the expert.
