The BSP needs a miracle to find a leader who can restore the party's image. Of course, there are candidates, but there is no magician. So tomorrow we will wonder whether the BSP is going to a funeral or to resuscitation. This was stated in an interview with NOVA NEWS by sociologist Kolyo Kolev.

He added that after Rumen Radev's appearance on the party scene, the situation for the centenary party is becoming even more difficult, because “BSP voters hear more from Radev than from their party's leadership.“

In addition, the party's participation in the government has dealt a heavy blow to its image, so it will be very difficult... I am even afraid that whoever is elected tomorrow (as leader of the BSP) will have to put the party through the purgatory of non-participation in the next parliament, Kolev commented.

The sociologist did not rule out an option in which the party would disappear in order to be “refounded“ in some form: “This is something that is on the agenda. Whether it will disappear in order for something new to emerge, or whether a new left-wing project will develop on the basis of some core remains to be seen.“

When asked who he believes is to blame for the current state of the socialist party, Kolev replied that this is a result of the party's governance over the past at least 15 years, during which it has lost its identity and legitimacy among its supporters.

Regarding today's extraordinary inclusion of GERB leader Boyko Borisov on social networks, in which he called on President Yotova to “immediately” appoint a caretaker government and set a date for elections, the sociologist noted that these are Borisov's characteristic “sham-chapels”.

“Political activity is being simulated. It is more than clear to everyone that the elections cannot be held earlier than April 19“, commented Kolev.

On the topic of choosing an acting prime minister, the sociologist explained that Iliyana Yotova's situation is not easy at all.

President Yotova has no choice, because this is complete madness with the so-called “home book“, which gives her an extremely limited choice. The only figure who is not perceived as being tied to Borisov and Peevski is that of Andrey Gyurov, so perhaps he should be nominated as caretaker prime minister, Kolev admitted, although he admitted that he is tied to another political force.

“However, I am inclined to predict that it will not be Dimitar Glavchev, since the elections under his administration were conducted in an outrageous manner, which was also noted by the Constitutional Court“, the sociologist recalled in conclusion.
