The election of Krum Zarkov is proof that the BSP possesses a unique quality, which is at critical moments in its history, in a unique way, to bring out the collective mind and pour energy into something new. Many times during the years of the Transition I have heard: “This is the end“. Suddenly an energy is poured in that gives new strength to the party. This was stated by sociologist Yuri Aslanov in the program “Since the day“ on BNT, quoted by novini.bg
He drew a parallel with the UDF and stated: “The reason why the UDF ended its relevance was that they achieved all their goals and practically ran out of content. With the BSP, very few of its goals and programs have been achieved. Many people believe that the path of the Left should continue. This is good news, because it will awaken the party to new life“.
There are certainly lobbies in the BSP. They change and regroup on various grounds. Most of them resemble ideological currents. Now, they seem to be grouped around the support of one person or another. There is probably a clash between the individual groups. The choice of Krum Zarkov is more of a reflex, an instinct, because the danger to the party is serious, he explained.
The party leadership failed to hear what the people who poured into the streets of Bulgaria said. They did not accept the arrogance of this government. This was a verdict for a failed government. There is no way to evaluate it positively, Aslanov reported.
The BSP has very seriously deviated from its ideas and principles and forgotten the interests of which parts of society it is supposed to represent and who its opponent is. Left-wing people are much more sensitive to the word given before elections and unfulfilled promises. It has very rarely happened that left-wing people have expressed any dissatisfaction against representatives of the party in local government, the sociologist admitted.
Yuriy Aslanov said that he does not know whether the BSP will pass the 4% barrier in the elections. “The mission of the left is not over, it must continue and will continue. People will always believe in the ideas of the left. The issue of restoring trust in the party is a big problem. Rumen Radev has not made a statement that he will position himself on the left. We still do not know anything about his project. He stepped onto the left's terrain by stating that he sets himself the task of overcoming the drastic inequalities in Bulgaria, at the same time he will not change taxes. How this happens - it is not clear. If someone thinks that the BSP is a launch pad for some project - they are wrong“, he pointed out.
There will certainly be a change, there will be a rearrangement in the BSP, he assured.
Aslanov did not rule out the possibility of cooperation with Rumen Radev's project on specific points, such as judicial reform and the fight against the oligarchy, but unconditional support will not be given.
