The Council of Ministers approved additional expenditures under the budget of the Ministry of Transport and Communications in the amount of 25,000,000 euros. The funds are provided to the National Company “Railway Infrastructure” for payment of already completed activities on strategic railway projects financed by the European Union and the national budget.
The decision is directly related to the implementation of the Methodology for changing the price of a public procurement contract as a result of inflation, adopted by Decree No. 290 of the Council of Ministers of 2022. As the manager of the railway infrastructure and a beneficiary of projects with EU and national budget funds worth over 2 billion euros, NRIC does not have the opportunity to cover these costs with its own funds.
Providing the necessary resources allows for timely payment to contractors and prevents the risk of delay or complete suspension of construction activities on key railway routes.
The financing will guarantee the full and effective absorption of funds from European programs. If the state does not provide these funds now, this would lead to serious delays, financial adjustments, loss of European funding and a significantly higher burden on the state budget in the future.
