15-year-old Alexander, whose body was found in the area of Okolchitsa peak in Ivaylo Kalushev's camper, has not attended school since January 5th (after the end of the winter vacation). This was explained by the Ministry of Education in a statement to bTV.
MES begins an inspection of the "Kosmos" Secondary School, where the young man studied.
However, his absences were recorded a month later – on February 3, when the teenager is already missing.
„Thus, the institutions could not react earlier and activate the Mechanism for Coverage and Detention at School“, the Ministry of Education and Science specified.
They specified that according to the Private School “Kosmos“ he attended school, but the inspection established periods of long absences, and each of them is currently being checked with the available documents and the information reflected in the diary. Other administrative inconsistencies have also been identified – for example, the school does not have an established practice for working under the Mechanism for Coverage and Detention at School.
The Ministry of Education added that on February 6, Alexander was deregistered at the request of his parents from the private school “Kosmos“, but retroactively – February 3.
“The on-site inspection will continue at least until the end of the week. The curriculum, the qualifications of the teachers, the correct keeping of the attendance diary and all other aspects of the school organization will be checked. Along with this, the atmosphere at school, whether psychological support is needed and is provided by the school to the students after the events of the last week“, the Ministry of Education and Science also said.
According to our information, another minor child, who was reported to have been in Kalushev's hut for months, also attended the same educational institution. We contacted the private school “Kosmos“, but they refused to comment on the case of the two students.
During a hearing in parliament, it also became clear that a team from the State Agency for Child Protection (SACP) is also conducting an inspection at the Private School “Kosmos“, announced the Chairperson of the SACP, Teodora Ivanova.
The MPs asked how it is possible for a 15-year-old girl not to go to school, given that education in our country is mandatory until the age of 16.
“Since Monday, I have ordered an inspection of the Private School “Kosmos“. The inspection is currently underway. Today, we were surprised to find out that the school principal is already on sick leave. We have previously reviewed the documents we were able to find there and within a few days we will come up with a final report, said the chairman of the SACP.
