Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev expressed his support for Georgi Klisurski's decision to accept the post of finance minister in the caretaker government with Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov.
“Being part of a caretaker government or heading one is never a matter of personal ambition. It is a matter of duty to the state“, the mayor emphasized. He expressed full understanding and support for Klisurski's decision to take responsibility at this difficult time.
The mayor pointed out that in recent years the two have worked side by side in managing Sofia's finances - in an environment of limited resources, serious pressure and a heavy legacy. “I know his professional standard, his demands on himself and his attention to every lev of public resource. I also know his ability to defend decisions when he is convinced that they are correct“, he said.
According to him, putting together a working management team is always a serious challenge, and in a short time frame – even greater. “I am convinced that Georgi Klisurski will be a stable, competent and honest addition to the caretaker cabinet team“, the mayor added.
He emphasized that the caretaker government does not have a mandate for long-term political changes, but has the extremely important task of guaranteeing the functioning of the state and the holding of fair and transparent elections.
“The horizon is short, but the responsibility is enormous. I do not expect this cabinet to solve all the accumulated problems. I expect him to bring discipline, stabilize the processes and clear up some of the accumulated mess, so that after the elections the state can move forward on a more solid basis“, the mayor also stated.
He announced that he would temporarily take over Klisurski's duties in the Sofia Municipality.
In conclusion, the mayor wished Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov, Georgi Klisurski and the entire team success, courage and determination.
“Our country needs people with character, calmness and professionalism“, he stated.
