We remain in an isolated part of Europe, as there is no real connectivity of the electricity systems with those of Western Europe. This is exactly what the EU is trying to improve. This was stated by the MEP from the BSP Tsvetelina Penkova in the program “From the Day“ on BNT.
Penkova has been designated as the chief negotiator by the European Parliament on the Regulation on Trans-European Energy Infrastructure (TEN-E) - a key regulatory act that outlines the strategic framework for the development of energy infrastructure in the European Union.
“This is a huge honor and means that together with my team we will have direct involvement and together with ESO we will ensure that Bulgaria's main priorities are protected. In the medium term, improving connectivity will lead to a reduction in electricity prices,“ she emphasized.
For the first time, funds have been allocated for nuclear power. From now on, investments will be for building energy infrastructure, security systems, storage and base capacities, said Tsvetelina Penkova.
According to her, there is energy stability and autonomy of the European system, but geostrategic processes definitely affect us.
In order to improve connectivity, the energy infrastructure, security systems and base capacities must be improved. This will solve the problem in the long term. The money for this will come from Europe, but it is important to make a clear calculation. This is an opportunity for us. Our country has an enviable energy mix. We have the opportunity to define the rules that will improve the connectivity of the electricity transmission system of Eastern Europe, Penkova explained.
In our country, increased electricity prices occur when there is a shortage. When there is excess consumption, connectivity in the European electricity system will neutralize the process of forming the price of electricity and thus reduce household costs, it became clear from her words.
