The European Public Prosecutor's Office Board found that the Bulgarian European Prosecutor Teodora Georgieva is guilty of a serious breach of her official duties, Nova TV reports. Georgieva was investigated by the Disciplinary Board of the European Chief Prosecutor's Office since March and removed from office.

The European Public Prosecutor's Office has postponed its decision on the appropriate sanction. The reason is that, given the seriousness of the violations found and the high degree of responsibility associated with the function of European Prosecutor, her dismissal cannot be ruled out.

Therefore, the European Chief Prosecutor has informed the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union and the European Commission of the decision of the College of European Public Prosecutors, as well as of the opinion of the Disciplinary Board on the disciplinary procedure against the Bulgarian European Prosecutor.

According to the EPPO Regulation, only the Court of Justice of the European Union may dismiss a European Prosecutor for serious misconduct, at the request of the European Parliament, the Council or the Commission. For this reason, before deciding to impose a lighter sanction, the EPPO should give these institutions the opportunity to assess whether they consider it appropriate to request the dismissal of the European Prosecutor concerned.
