Tihomir Bezlov: Bulgaria should carefully monitor the idea of a French "nuclear umbrella" - 1

Bulgaria should carefully analyze the proposal related to the expansion of the French nuclear umbrella in Europe, as well as the possibility of some of these forces being deployed in countries on NATO's eastern flank. This was commented on by security expert from the Center for the Study of Democracy Tihomir Bezlov on NOVA NEWS.

The topic arose after French President Emmanuel Macron announced a change in France's nuclear doctrine. According to the new strategy, the country plans to increase the number of its nuclear warheads, limit public information about its arsenal and consider deploying some of it in allied countries on NATO's front flank.

Bezlov also commented on the development of the conflict in the Middle East, noting that the actions of the Iranian leadership often seem difficult to predict. “It is difficult to predict who exactly they will choose to hit. There are internal contradictions and a crisis of the elites in Iran itself“, the analyst pointed out.

One of the main risks being discussed in Europe is the possibility of a new refugee wave. According to Bezlov, at the moment, there are mainly internal displacements of people, rather than mass movements to Europe.

The expert also commented on the country's preparedness for possible emergencies. According to him, the topic of shelters and the protection of the population should be discussed, but the real possibilities are currently limited. “There are old bomb shelters, but many of them are in poor condition and difficult to access“, he pointed out.
