The team of the Minister of Justice declared its support for a new civil initiative for an independent and free judicial system.

Minister Andrey Yankulov stated that he would provide institutional protection to every magistrate who is ready to come forward with his name and speak out about addictions and criminal influence in the judicial system.

The petition, which includes magistrates, lawyers and representatives of various professions, calls on all citizens and professional communities “to stand openly and permanently behind the cause of reclaiming the judiciary from the shadows of lawlessness“.

At the end of February, 15 prosecutors issued an unprecedented open letter in defense of their colleague Vladimir Nikolov, who publicly insisted that the prosecutor's office be independent of external and internal influences. He called on prosecutors to shed light on and resolve scandalous cases such as the "Dwarves", "The Notary", etc. "The wall of silence in the prosecutor's office is beginning to crack. The prosecutor's office will change because for the first time the need for change is realized by the prosecutors themselves", commented Minister Yankulov at the time.

“We support every magistrate who openly speaks about irregularities and problems in the judiciary. The truth strengthens statehood. We categorically oppose any forms of pressure, intimidation and organized slander of magistrates and active citizens. We will not accept abuse of institutional power, manipulative campaigns and attempts to silence the inconvenient truth. Every such act is a direct attack on the rule of law", the civil initiative now states. They demand an “immediate cessation of all forms of external and internal pressure on honorable magistrates and the cleansing of the judiciary from dependent and incompetent individuals“.
