Atanas Slavov: We all know that prosecutors general are not simply elected by the Supreme Judicial Council. They have always been appointed in the second way

"Today there is a meeting of the prosecutor's college. It simply has to implement the law. It simply has to appoint another acting prosecutor. There are 1,500 prosecutors. Out of 1,500, at least a few hundred have the right to hold this position," the former justice minister also commented

The acting prosecutor general Borislav Sarafov continues to hold the position in violation of the law. This was stated by the former justice minister and MP from the PP&DB Atanas Slavov on BNT. According to him, the decision is for the prosecutor's college of the Supreme Judicial Council to implement the law and elect a temporary acting prosecutor.

Slavov commented on the situation surrounding the leadership of the prosecutor's office on the day the prosecutor's college of the Supreme Judicial Council meets on the topic. He stated that in his opinion the current situation is illegal.

For us, he is illegally performing his functions and illegitimately performing his functions, that is why there are these protests that have not stopped for a long time“, commented the former Minister of Justice.

According to him, the law can be implemented relatively easily if the prosecutorial college makes a decision.

„Today there is a meeting of the prosecutorial college. It simply has to implement the law. It simply has to appoint another acting prosecutor. There are 1,500 prosecutors. Out of 1,500, at least a few hundred have the right to hold this position.“

Slavov, however, expressed doubt that this will happen.

„My expectations are that the law will not be implemented. Because the sponsors, those who control the top brass of the prosecution, and this is the oligarchic tandem Borisov and Peevski, Mr. Sarafov is very convenient for them.“

According to him, the problem with the election of the Prosecutor General is systemic and is traditionally solved through political agreements.

„We all know that prosecutors general are not simply elected by the Supreme Judicial Council. They have always been appointed the second way. With political participation, with secret talks, backstage deals.“

According to him, the next prosecutor general should be elected by a new composition of the Supreme Judicial Council.
