Violeta Komitova: I congratulate Minister Dechev. He is making efforts to prevent vote buying - 1

A caretaker government should not commit to long-term international agreements. This is how architect Violeta Komitova from the MECH party commented on the 10-year agreement with Ukraine signed by caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov.
In the program “Crossroads” on Nova TV, Komitova, who was twice a minister in a caretaker government and once a deputy minister, commented that it could have been waited. “In 2 months, a regular cabinet will come and could have signed this agreement”, said Komitova.

“I have the same opinion about the Peace Board. Zhelyazkov signed it one day before the government left. And we saw the ultimate world hypocrisy – after 10 days the Peace Board opened a new war”, said Komitova.

She appreciated the work of the acting Minister Emil Dechev against vote buying. “Currently we are seeing very strong actions by the Minister of the Interior. I congratulate Minister Dechev. I do not know him as a person, but I see that he is making efforts to prevent vote buying, which has long been known – who the buyers are, where they are, where they live. But we have not seen any Minister of the Interior act in this way. He chose his approach and in my opinion this will give good results – "the bought vote as a percentage of the total share of voters will be reduced," Komitova said.

Komitova also commented on the information presented by the caretaker government about the money for road repairs.

„Road maintenance is a major corruption scheme. In 2021, while I was a caretaker minister, I terminated the contracts of a group of companies that were subscribed to this activity. They always receive the public contracts," Komitova said.

She further explained that road maintenance is not construction. It includes mowing the lawn, filling holes with asphalt, repairing markings, replacing broken road signs and clearing snow.

„For all this in 2021, 2 billion leva was spent from the budget, which is an insanely large amount. I terminated these contracts because I believe that work worth 2 billion leva was not done. Now we see that last year 2 billion euros were spent - in one year, for the same activities. This is a "pit" in which public procurement is given to the same companies so that they can return funds to the parties. This is the scariest thing about corruption - not that someone bought a yacht or a house, but that elections are bought", said Komitova.

“I see an opportunity if parties like MECH enter the parliament, because we hold on to the truth and are against hypocrisy”, said Komitova. “Until we start telling the truth, we will not solve the problems”, she added.

”We continue to seek unity with all those who are against corruption and the old model. We even had success with one of the votes of no confidence - we managed to unite support from different parties. "We will continue to work with all who want a real fight against corruption and a change in the status quo," Komitova said.
