A serious accident involving a TIR and a passenger van occurred on the international road E-79 between Mezdra and Botevgrad, BulNews agency learned.
The incident occurred near the village of Lyutidol, at the bends known to drivers as "eski".
A TIR with Polish registration was traveling from Vidin to Sofia when the driver lost control of the steering and hit a "Ford" cargo truck.
The driver of the cargo truck got scared and drove off in the direction of Botevgrad.
Witnesses started a chase with the fugitive and reported the emergency number 112. They managed to block the TIR's path and made a civil arrest of the driver until the arrival of the police.
After an investigation, the uniformed officers determined that the driver of the heavy vehicle was Bulgarian.
As a result of the strong impact, two people were injured - a man and a woman. Two ambulances from Mezdra arrived at the scene of the accident and transported the injured to the Vratsa hospital. At this stage, there is no further information about their health condition.
Due to the accident, a huge traffic jam has formed on both sides of the road and traffic is being regulated by the Mezdra Traffic Police.
