The official Minister of Tourism Evtim Miloshev fired yesterday Prof. Mariela Modeva and Veronika Chaneva – Gyurova. This was reported to TravelNews by officials of the Ministry of Tourism, and the information was later confirmed by the department.
Prof. Mariela Modeva was an adviser to the former Minister of Tourism Zaritsa Dinkova, and Veronika Gyurova was a PR and director of the "Public Relations and Protocol" Directorate. and passed for Dinkova's closest person in the department.
The media had a hard time working with Gyurova because she selectively gave information to certain journalists and generally pursued a closed policy. She kept Dinkova from being asked uncomfortable questions, did not pick up the phone and even allowed herself not to answer questions for comment or opinion.
In general, there was a lack of transparency in the work of the Ministry of Tourism and in the work of the political team during the time of Zaritsa Dinkova. The media were pressured through the provision of advertising funds, the same methods used years ago by the long-time minister of tourism from GERB – Nikolina Angelkova.
Evtim Miloshev has terminated the contract of Prof. Mariela Modeva, who was an advisor and part of Dinkova's political cabinet. Dinkova herself did not do it, and in principle, when ministers are changed, the political cabinets go - head of the cabinet, advisers and director of "Public Relations".
The professor could not be a deputy minister in the last regular government, because he was in a conflict of interest with his brother Ivan Modev, who was the head of the office of the Prime Minister Academician Nikolay Denkov.
Deputy ministers are appointed by the prime minister and in reality she was in a subordinate position to her brother, which is a serious conflict of interest, lawyers explained. This conflict now effectively disappears with the change of power, since Ivan Modev is no longer the head of the office of the caretaker prime minister.
