Prof. Palangurski: We have a complex for statehood gifted by Russia - 1

"The last functioning parliament becomes a pre-election body. It makes no sense in a parliamentary country for the parliament to be absent for a long time, but the quality of political life can use this idea."

Prof. Milko Palangurski, historian from the University of Veliko Tarnovo, author of the newly published book "The Building of Modern Bulgaria– the notables, the constitution and the prince".

"This is my view of how a country is created," he said of the book.

We, the Bulgarians, have a complex that our liberation is the result of foreign forces and this complex plays a bad joke on us, that we have statehood as a gift. However, the truth is different. The role of our political actors is much greater, emphasized Prof. Palangurski. According to the historian, it is a "long-term strategy that we can only be an appendage to some great power and have no creative possibilities for self-governance.

When the documents are reread, the view becomes different. The analysis of the documents shows that these people were aware of everything, pointed out Prof. Milko Palangurski in connection with his research work on the book.

"There is a constant clash with the controlling Russian Empire – she controls the whole process. It's an incredible clash. In the Constituent Assembly more than 15 times, our first builders are prohibited from doing certain activities. (…) Diplomats already start writing in the second week – "there is a healthy national minority here that will make a constitution, but very soon it will go its own way."
