A bike ride under the motto "Sofia rides a bike for cleaner air" will take place takes place today, the "Sofia - European capital of sports" initiative, co-organizer of the event, informs on its website, BTA reported.
Popular sports stars of Bulgaria will lead the column of the bike ride "Sofia rides a bike for cleaner air" along the route from the National Assembly through the Orlov bridge, along the Perlovska river to the NDK, then along the "Vitosha" blvd. to the South Park entrance. There, on the large meadow, a big sports festival is planned with many attractions, competitions, a raffle with prizes, a children's bicycle rally, a bicycle tire change competition, music and entertainment.
The event is organized by "Sofia – world capital of sports“, Center for Urban Mobility and Sofia Municipality. The meeting point will be opened at 9:30 a.m. in front of the National Assembly, so that each participant can receive a shirt and a starting number, which can then be used to participate in the many raffles with prizes in the South Park.
The ride is not competitive, and the four-kilometer route is aimed at sending a message for cleaner air, for an even more beautiful and green Bulgarian capital. "Sofia – European Capital of Sports" organizes the event for the eighth year in a row, together with more than a hundred activities, which aim to provide more opportunities to Sofia residents and guests of the city for sports and an active lifestyle in a healthier and more pleasant environment.
Registration for the cycling and cross-country is not mandatory, but after 9:30 a.m., if you wish, you can pick up a shirt and a starting number, with which you can participate in the raffles in the South Park with prizes of over 2,000 BGN.
Among the supporters of the initiative are some of Bulgaria's sports stars, led by the two individual Olympic champions from the last games in Tokyo – boxer Stoika Krasteva and karateka Ivet Goranova. The legends Yordan Yovchev and Evgenia Radanova, the Olympic bronze medalist with the ensemble from Rio 2016 Reneta Kamberova, the talented faces of “Sofia – euro capital of sports“ Alexandra Feigin, Katrin Manoilova, Andrea Kotsinova, Albert Popov, children from sports schools and many others.
The South Park Sports Fest starts at 11:30am with lots of music, races, competitions, fun games and raffles with prizes, so keep your starting number. For the good mood of those present on the large meadow next to the entrance from "Vitosha" Blvd. will be taken care of by the popular and young presenter Petrana Petrova.
The goal of the bike ride is to encourage people to get out of their cars and try alternative transportation in the urban environment. Bicycles are an excellent option, and clean air depends on each one of us.
