Radan Kanev: GERB slipped up on the proposal of "Vazrazhdane" - 1

"Politicians have lost the ability to have a calm, reasonable debate. They are trying, especially the populist ones, to bring the society into a regime in which it cannot be conducted".

This is how MEP Radan Kanev commented on the amendments to the Law on School and Pre-School Education, which prohibit propaganda, popularization and incitement to ideas or views related to non-traditional sexual orientation or determination of gender identity other than biological.

The topic of sexuality is highly sensitive, Kanev pointed out and added that "energy, security, our policy regarding Russian aggression in Ukraine are also topics on which we enter propaganda mode".

"Political debate is conducted with propaganda clichés – without real arguments and sober thought".

He confirmed his commitment, which he took on social networks, to request an evaluation from the European institutions for the amendments to the Law on school and preschool education.

"I have no doubt that the wording thus adopted contradicts fundamental elements of European legislation. It is my duty to refer the European institutions. First of all, the EC, which has the function of assessing which elements of national legislation contradict the European one.

If the EC finds such a thing and takes the appropriate measures, it will most likely be used for polarization again. It is most dangerous when the debate in the parliament sounds like a dispute on social networks.

GERB slipped on the proposal of "Vazrazhdane" - a party that is destructive and seeks to destroy the public conversation, noted Kanev.

"I call on the people's representatives from PP-DB, together with the minority from GERB-SDS, who voted against or abstained, to appeal to the Constitutional Court.

It is obvious that the head of state is also participating in the race for party populism in Bulgaria. His reaction will depend on where he plans to position his party project.

Radan Kanev commented on the words of Boyko Borisov, who said: "If Euro-Atlanticism is to make me a woman, then, I give you a title, I am not Euro-Atlantic. I won't get up no way. Nor do I wish my grandchildren to do it. This is how the GERB leader commented on the changes in the law on school education.

"The leader of the largest party in Bulgaria allows himself to get bogged down in propaganda clichés and talk typical of polarized groups in social networks. This is very dangerous!

This law and this talk is not helping gay kids, their parents, or their classmates to be better and understanding. Bulgarian citizens can speak calmly about these issues".

Euro-Atlanticism in Bulgaria has become a cliché, Kanev also noted in the show "Before all".

"The fault of GERB and DPS has been very great over the years. Borisov can be anything he thinks will bring him votes and power. Accordingly, there is a risk that he will no longer be European and Atlantic. The same applies to DPS. However, there are real European people in GERB and in DPS - voters, political activists, politicians at lower levels".

I do not overestimate the possibility of having a Bulgarian Orban, Radan Kanev also said.

It is good for PP and DB to appear together in the elections, he also pointed out.

Our country is outrageously passive in the process of distribution of commissioner responsibilities and in determining the priorities of the EC, which will be valid in the next 5 years, the MEP noted.

"I hope we will all be pleasantly surprised by the composition of the next regular cabinet,", he also said.
