There is a second person convicted in the case of the murder of the Bulgarian border policeman Petar Bachvarov, writes the Odrin news agency site batiekspres.com.

Mustafa E. received 12 years in prison for attempted murder and 6 months for damage to property, the site specifies.

Border policeman Petar Bachvarov died on November 7, 2022 while on duty guarding the Bulgarian-Turkish border in the area of the village of Golyam Dervent, BTA recalls.

Together with a fellow soldier, he comes across a breach in the border fence. During the inspection, the police officer was mortally wounded by a bullet fired from the direction of Turkey. The brothers Engin E. and Mustafa E. were detained in the case, BNR recalls.

On February 6, the court in Edirne sentenced Engin E. to life in prison for the murder of Bachvarov and to 12 years for the attempted murder of the Bulgarian serviceman, who was on duty with Bachvarov on the night of the incident.

Mustafa E., who was with his brother near the border, was initially punished only with probation. However, the decision of the Edirne Court was appealed to the Court of Appeal.

The Court of Appeal returned the case to Edirne, as the magistrates disagreed with the decision for Mustafa E.

At a meeting held yesterday, the court in Edirne did not change the sentences of Engin E. and sentenced his brother Mustafa to 12 years in prison for attempted murder and 6 months for damage to property, writes batiekspres.com.< /p>
