We are not sinless, but we are real. With these words, the Mayor of Sofia, Vasil Terziev, jokingly began the briefing on the occasion of one year since his entry into office, quoted by Dariknews.bg.
And he defined this one year as “extremely dynamic“. “As difficult as it was for me, many things were achieved for the city, which are the result of collective work, including with the support of our opponents. In the end, the only thing that matters is what kind of city we will leave to future generations," Terziev added.
He said together with his team they have prepared an 80-page report "with pictures and figures" which will be published on the website of the Municipality by the end of the day.
The mayor hopes to achieve even more results next year. “We have learned that even severe legacy problems have a solution,” he pointed out.
As inherited problems, he identified – the rescue of European funds, the lack of project readiness for water supply – “Dragalevtsi“ and “Bankya”, public procurement, illegal dumping and garbage problems, problems with payment of certain sectors and others. According to him, the problems have been solved.
„We had divided things into three different groups – the small visible, the large visible and the large invisible“, said Terziev. He noted progress in the lighting of Sofia, the cleaning and washing of the capital, in terms of green systems and maintenance of parks, subways, cleaning graffiti and installing cameras so that it does not feel like we are “living in a ghetto”. “We are proud to have planted over 2,000 trees”, he pointed out.
On the subject of security, over 800 cameras have been restored. On the subject of garbage, the mayor made great progress.
According to him, the goal was never to be error-free, as he humorously began the briefing, but the question is how quickly you catch mistakes, how quickly you react and how much damage there is from those mistakes.
