The Director of the National Theater “Ivan Vazov” Vasil Vasilev published on his Facebook profile a signal sent to the Ministry of Internal Affairs about expected tension before the premiere of Bernard Shaw's play "The Weapons and the Man".
„In connection with the announcement of the press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs about what happened on November 7, 2024 in front of the National Theater, I publish my signal to the Minister of Internal Affairs Atanas Ilkov and to the Chief Secretary, in which TWO DAYS later early on, I express concerns that there will be tension before the premiere of “The Weapons and the Man”, wrote Vassilev, quoted by bTV.
"In this letter, you can see that our concerns are dictated by real actions of specific individuals and organizations against the "Ivan Vazov" National Theater. Why action has not been taken against these and other similar organizations is a question for others to answer. And once again, I state that my appearance in front of the National Theater was dictated by the invitation of the protesters themselves, Vassilev also wrote.
Earlier today, the Ministry of the Interior sent a report to the Prime Minister regarding the maintenance of public order before, during and after the November 7 demonstration in front of the "Ivan Vazov" National Theater. It grew into discontent against director John Malkovich's production "Guns and the Man". The report says: "Around 18:00 the director comes out in front of the theater building and addresses the gathered crowd. His actions were spontaneous and not coordinated with the law enforcement authorities. The police officers immediately intervened, surrounded the director of the theater and built a cordon in order to protect the lives and health of those present.
