Despite the lack of legislative activity, the remuneration of the people's representatives has increased, while the average salary in Bulgaria reports a decline for the first time on a quarterly basis, according to the data of the National Statistical Institute (NSI).
Remuneration in the Legislature
The basic monthly remuneration of a member of parliament reaches BGN 7,080. In the presence of a doctoral degree, the amount increases by 5 percent, and membership in a parliamentary committee increases the remuneration to BGN 8,142. People's representatives with more than 20 years of work experience receive up to BGN 10,195 per month.
Remuneration of senior positions
The Speaker of the National Assembly and the Prime Minister receive the same gross monthly remuneration in the amount of BGN 10,973. The highest remuneration is the President of the Republic of Bulgaria - BGN 14,160 per month.
Mechanism of formation
"The basic deputy salary is calculated by multiplying by three the average salary for the previous quarter in the public sector. However, it also includes all those working in the budget sector, including the municipal administration," the journalist from "24 hours" explained to NOVA. Hristo Nikolov.
For the last quarter, the remuneration of the people's representatives increased by 1.5 percent, and according to Nikolov, this is not an unusual phenomenon, since there have been cases of an increase of 18-19 percent.
