"What will be the future of this National Assembly, because if the chairman is from the smaller political formations - ITN or BSP - it will be more difficult to form a majority for a future cabinet. And yet, if the election of the president goes through, it will be a clear sign that a majority could be found for a government as well.
This comment was made to the BNR by Elena Darieva, manager of the sociological agency "Nasoka", adding:
"What we are observing between GERB-SDS and PP-DB is a game with zero score. In this fragmented parliament, a majority cannot be reached without a conversation between the first two political forces.
In her words, with the nomination of Atanas Atanasov from the PP-DB for Speaker of the Parliament "we are witnessing a new development in this saga", but added that she does not expect this development to lead to anything different:
"I think that the support for Atanasov will be comparable to that received by Andrey Tsekov, who was the first PP-DB nominee for the post, but his candidacy was withdrawn because he did not gather the necessary support. To be elected gen. Atanasov, should receive the support of GERB, but they insist that PP-DB accept the nomination of Boyko Borisov for prime minister - a condition that is unacceptable to them. ... I expect this candidacy to fail to garner sufficient support".
"The BSP is knocking on an open door, they already received the support of GERB for Nataliya Kiselova in the previous vote for the election of the speaker of the 51st National Assembly,", she believes.
According to Elena Darieva, with the decision not to raise from "DPS - New beginning" candidates for chairman and deputy chairman of the National Assembly, as well as chairmen of parliamentary committees, Delyan Peevski has released both GERB and BSP from their commitment to sign the sanitary cordon declaration:
"It is as if Peevski himself sets up such an imaginary sanitary cordon with the intention of not appointing presidents of the parliament and committees. What was a difficult condition, he removes it, as if charting the path of such a coalition. I think that this is too transparent as a strategy and I do not think that PP-DB will give support to Kiselova. Not without a signature under the declaration, which is their requirement.
