Peevski calls on MPs not to cut money for teachers, police and culture

Regardless of the fact that he still chose, even after a month of labor pains, his president , the 51st Parliament was compromised in the eyes of the Bulgarian citizens. This is said in an official position of the leader of the "DPS - New Beginning" Delyan Peevski, sent to the media.

"Disproportionate claims, outright lies and manipulations, trampling on basic democratic principles and values are only part of the arsenal of compromised and failed politicians who try to dictate the agenda of parliament and state.

Sick democracy can only be cured by more democracy. That is why we must go to new, early parliamentary elections - the most powerful medicine for democracy.

For the sovereign to pronounce and set the parameters very clearly - who and how to take over the management of the state.

Until then, the 51st Parliament must fulfill only one of its responsibilities, overcoming the accumulated tension and opposition - to adopt the Law on the State Budget and the so-called “small budgets" with which to guarantee the security of the state and the stability of its financial system.

However, the implementation of this task should not fall under the blows of revanchism and the service of private-party interests, such requests are already creeping into the public space.

Therefore, it is of particular importance whether the people's representatives will not be tempted to postpone the legally accepted increases in the salaries of teachers, university professors, the employees of the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Defense, scheduled from January 1, 2025.

Such an approach would be unfair and would put important social groups at a disadvantage, compared to the rising cost of living and the responsibilities they have as teachers, policemen, military - spheres that shape the future and security of the state.

It would also be irresponsible to cut the budget for performing arts and art schools in the “Culture" sector.

The budget should also pay what is necessary to the athletes who glorify Bulgaria with their achievements, so that they can carry out their training in adequate conditions and environment.

DPS-NEW BEGINNING calls on all parliamentarians to take responsibility and protect the interests of the most vulnerable groups and public priorities, so as not to allow a deepening of public mistrust towards the already compromised work of the National Assembly," the press release also reads.
