Who is ruling with whom and will the “Zhelyazkov” cabinet serve a full term? A government of hardline policies or compromises is emerging? Political scientist Kristian Shkvarek and the director of the “Anti-Corruption Fund” Boyko Stankushev commented on the topic in the studio of “Wake up”.
"I would say with regret that we are observing a cabinet of compromise. I make a very clear distinction, thanks to the fact that we are currently seeing two administrations coming to power at the same time. We have the wonderful opportunity to see how the administration in the US entered its first week and how the cabinet in Bulgaria did this. In America, the blow was brutal - with dozens of decrees, strategic decisions, withdrawal from the WHO, withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement, removal of migrants. Shockingly, cruel and confident. In Bulgaria - and this is not a criticism only of the current government, we cannot see such a thing", said Shkvarek.
In his words, "when a new government comes to power in our country, it starts to tread carefully". "At the first pressure, the first resistance from the street or from the opposition - it immediately folds. The difference is simply diametrically opposite".
According to Stankushev, the new cabinet started "with some small false starts". "The situation with Ivaylo Ivanov is very unpleasant. Because if the decision for him was made by Borisov and Zhelyazkov - you cannot say the opposite after three days. Also, the meandering with the convergence report, which was said to be released in January, now that it will be released in February. By the way, they should not rush into this. But they should not make rash statements, because on behalf of a great authority, at least in this political space that Borisov is in, he should keep his word. In general, the cabinet is starting very timidly and does not have a clear profile.
He described the situation with the coalition as "eagle, crab and pike". "There are people inside who have been opponents for decades. But whatever. The sensible thing is to have a regular government. At its head is a person with experience, such as Rosen Zhelyazkov. He is a good technocrat. Whether the fact that he is also a big party member will prevent him from serving for at least a year - I cannot say, because all these people are dependent,", Stankushev emphasized.
