Economist: Restaurateurs do not deserve the privilege of 9% VAT - 1

"I do not think that restaurateurs deserve this privilege - 9% VAT. All other businesses have 20%, returning the rate to this value for this industry is fair. If we want lower taxes, they should be for everyone." This is what economist Georgi Ganev said on "Denyat na Zievo" on NOVA NEWS.

He also commented on the submitted bill to change the VAT law, through which the rate could possibly be reduced, as follows: "This majority has repeatedly bombed the budget with legislative changes."

At the same time, Atanas Dimitrov - Deputy Chairman of the Bulgarian Hotel and Restaurant Association promised a huge protest in Sofia. He called the budget change "sad news" for Bulgarian tourism and restaurant industry. "It is inexplicable how they turned people against the industry", added Dimitrov.

With regard to the debt and deficit, Ganev expressed skepticism and called the Bulgarian Development Bank "a piggy bank for stealing". The economist admitted that for those in power, salaries in the Ministry of Internal Affairs are "the most pleasant".

Georgi Ganev also commented on state-owned stores: "They will create a company, hire people, distribute salaries and in the end nothing will happen. An impossible project.".

The few positive things about the budget framework, according to him, are that it does not hinder our path to the eurozone. "Good political work is being done at the moment" The economist called the move towards the eurozone "the anchor that supports this majority".
