The potential of the many protests in the country at the moment is not directed at the government as a whole, but remains on specific topics. Votes of no confidence have only limited support. The majority is instinctively "for" the proposed referendum on the introduction of the euro, and among those who could potentially vote in a model referendum, indecision prevails again before the introduction of the single European currency in 2026 in our country. Bulgarians do not consider themselves to be aware of the upcoming liberalization of the electricity market for household consumers. Aggressive behavior and actions among young people and adolescents are a widespread problem in the eyes of the adult Bulgarian population. Regarding road accidents, our society reacts rather with self-blame towards our awareness as drivers. A comprehensive legislative solution for electric scooters is also expected, but the possibility of their complete ban is rather rejected.
The findings are from an independent survey on current topics by the new sociological agency “Measure“, which Parvan Simeonov's team created months ago. The survey was conducted between May 10-13 among 803 people and presents the opinions of the adult population of the country. This type of survey serves mainly for quick observations of public opinion and the formation of hypotheses for subsequent studies.
“Measure“ asked a question regarding the many different protests in the country, in order to check whether the protest potential at this moment is directed towards the government, or remains on specific topics.
The answers clearly show that at the moment there is clearly no imagined alternative to this government and there is a certain tolerance towards this government.
„At this moment it makes more sense to protest on specific issues“ – this option is chosen by 62.6% of those questioned, and a minority of 30.3% choose the opinion that „At this moment it makes more sense to protest against the government as a whole“. Apparently, that is why the majority does not support the votes of no confidence in the current government. Of course, here the opinions are also determined by the total preferences for the introducing parties „Vazrazhdane“, „Velichye“, MECH. 33.2% support the votes cast by these parties, but 60.6% do not support them.
However, the idea of a referendum on the euro is supported.
Such ideas in our country traditionally receive a favorable wind and 63.3% are “for“ to hold such a referendum, against 35.3% “against“. That is why the declarative turnout in such a referendum is high and only about one tenth of those questioned say that they would not vote in such a referendum or are hesitant. Naturally, such turnout would hardly be replicated in practice.
If a national referendum were held in Bulgaria with the question “Do you agree that Bulgaria should adopt the single European currency “euro“ in 2026?“, which of the following would you personally do? 34.4% say they will vote yes/agree, and 54.9% - that they will vote no/disagree. The rest will not vote or are hesitant.
The data literally repeats a series of studies going back years. Apparently, much more information work is needed - especially against the background of the otherwise very high approval of Bulgarians towards the European Union as a whole.
As reported in the program “A Question of Measure“, Bulgarians place the EU in first place in terms of positive attitude among all possible geopolitical factors. The positive attitude is 64.4%, and the negative - 25.5%
There is also a lack of readiness regarding the liberalization of the electricity market.
„I am rather aware of the upcoming introduction“, say 25.3%, „I am rather not aware of the upcoming introduction“, choose 73.7%.
In such questions, there is often declarativeness and prestige in the answers, but even this does not help for a higher share of answers of the type „I think I am aware“.
21.7%, i.e. every fifth and even more, have witnessed cases of violence among young people and adolescents in the last year.
63.5% or almost two out of every three claim that they have witnessed behavior among young people and adolescents in the last twelve months that they can define as indecent. 28.3%, or almost one in three, testify that they have seen aggressive youth gangs in the last year. The problem of aggression among adolescents and young people clearly has a serious scope in the eyes of Bulgarians.
A sociological experiment was conducted regarding road accidents:
Respondents were asked to choose only one answer from the options “The fault lies more in the conditions and rules that the state creates“ and “The fault lies more with the drivers themselves and their behavior“. In this dilemma, 26.5% talk about the frame, and 47% - about the drivers themselves, but 26.2% cannot separate one from the other.
Due to the increasing number of incidents involving electric scooters, a majority of 68.1%, i.e. over two-thirds, supports the option “At this moment, it makes the most sense to adopt comprehensive legislative decisions on the subject“. 25.4% choose “At this moment, it makes the most sense for local municipalities to introduce specific rules depending on local specifics – infrastructure and opportunities“.
4.5% find that there is no need to take new actions, the rest are hesitant. Regarding their complete ban, an experimental question shows that public sentiment is rather overwhelmingly negative towards such a restrictive action. 53.8% of Bulgarians do not support a complete ban on the use of electric scooters, compared to 42.9% who support such a ban. 3.3% cannot form an opinion on the issue.
It is clear that the authorities are expected to take action, but without extremes.
Study sheet:
The data is from an independent telephone survey by the sociological agency “Myara“, conducted between May 10 and 13, 2025 among 803 adult Bulgarian citizens. The maximum standard deviation is ±3.5 at 50% shares. 1% of the sample is equal to about 54,000 people.
