When we were building the structures of the DPS in 1990, Chakarov, Mestan, Ademov and Atalay were not there. They and other people were hiding under the table, because at that time it was not known whether this party would exist, whether it was in line with the Constitution. They came when something could already be taken from the DPS. I look at Chakarov as a clientelist - the man who only took and gave nothing to the DPS".
This was told to the Bulgarian National Radio by Guner Tahir, founder of the National Movement for Rights and Freedoms (NDPS), a former member of the MRF, and he stressed that he was not surprised by the decision of Dzhevdet Chakarov to step down from the co-chairmanship of the MRF and demonstrate rapprochement with Delyan Peevski, because "this person did not show any possibilities as the leader of the MRF, he was very cautious all the time, he was very careful about what he said, he could not oppose Peevski in any way, and now, as far as I understand, maybe he did not want to".
According to Tahir, Chakarov's act is probably related to pressure on his son, who has long been known to have over 30 companies registered in his name, and now the figure has "swollen to 43":
"Behind all of his son's companies is the former Minister of Ecology, Dzhevdet Chakarov himself".
You have to be an absolute layman in politics not to see a deal in this, he also pointed out, recalling that the very next day Chakarov asked the Supreme Court of Cassation to dismiss the case for the expulsion of Delyan Peevski and several other people from his faction from the Movement for Rights and Freedoms.
I wouldn't be surprised if the next person in a photo with Peevski is Ramadan Atalay, he said, specifying that Atalay has been an MP since 1997, but before becoming a member of parliament he was not a member of the MRF.
According to him, Dogan is now reaping what he has sown over the years:
"It turned out that he has created more clientelists. The foundations of the DPS are rotten, built around the myth of Dogan, but the legends about him did not come true".
Tahir believes that the people around Dogan could not quickly create a new party, because with the withdrawal of the lawsuit before the Supreme Court of Cassation "Peevski cut off their power and now they have to think about another move".
