Bulgaria aims for 3.5% of GDP for defense by 2032 - 1

Bulgaria will continue to invest in its defense capabilities, with the ambition of the government being that by 2032 our country will allocate at least 3.5% of its gross domestic product for defense.

In front of the leadership of Bulgarian and German arms companies, President and Supreme Commander-in-Chief Rumen Radev stressed the need for joint European efforts to maintain security and peace on the Old Continent.

„The security architecture is collapsing. Europe is facing growing threats, conflicts are growing around us, Russia's war against Ukraine is escalating. The only way to ensure peace is by developing defensive and deterrent capabilities to counter any threat,” commented President Rumen Radev.

“We have decided to increase defense spending to at least 2.5-3% of gross domestic product in the short term, with the aim of achieving a minimum of 3.5% by 2032,” said Defense Minister Atanas Zapryanov.
