Siljanovska: The declaration on North Macedonia adopted by the Bulgarian parliament is offensive - 1

„The declaration on North Macedonia adopted by the Bulgarian parliament is offensive and makes dialogue impossible from the very beginning”, said today the president of the RSM Gordana Siljanovska Davkova, quoted by Macedonian media. According to her, such documents undermine the spirit of the Treaty of Good Neighborhood and Friendship and do not lead to European values.

„This is another in a series of similar resolutions and memorandums. Such actions do not help, but rather hinder the process of rapprochement. The essence of the preamble to the Agreement is to help each other with understanding, not with blackmail and refusals”, said Siljanovska.

She expects the European Parliament to support the resolution guaranteeing the Macedonian language and identity. Otherwise, she said, it would be a major blow to the EU's credibility and democratic capacity.

“It is shocking in the 21st century to introduce amendments that deny someone's identity, especially by an institution like the European Parliament. If fundamental rights and values are not respected, then the EU has no future as a community based on principles, but becomes a bureaucratic machine”, she said.

Regarding a possible meeting with the Bulgarian president at the upcoming NATO summit in The Hague, Siljanovska said that she could not confirm whether it would take place for now.
