Eight German Shepherds, let loose without leashes or muzzles, killed a pet dog. Photos of the victim sparked sympathy on social media, but also anger. The legitimate question arises as to why there are laws and regulations for pet ownership at all, given that they are clearly not being followed.
„I regularly walked with my two dogs and my wife on Vitosha. We were on the trail in the direction of the „Aleko” hut. In the middle of the road, we stopped to rest. We saw several dogs that rushed aggressively towards us. Ours ran down. I shouted, tried to stop the other animals. It was impossible. I saw that the owner hid in the forest. We wrote on social media and the traces lead to a certain person. We don't know if he has a kennel or walks other people's pets," Kalin, the owner of the killed Australian shepherd, told "Hello, Bulgaria."
The owners found the animal bitten and drowned in the river the next day.
“Dogs must be on a leash on the territory of the Sofia Municipality. When they are aggressive, they must also be muzzled. In this case, we have a violation. I call on the owners to register the animals and take responsibility for them," said the mayor of the Bistritsa municipality, Samuil Popov.
”Last fall, I was in a meadow in Bistritsa and the same man appeared with a car, from which 7-8 German shepherds jumped out and attacked my dog. I shouted at him, but he had no control over the animals,” Valentin said.
NOVA contacted the possible owner of the animals, but he said he didn't walk that many dogs. A briefing is scheduled for today at the Sofia Municipality, which will address the tightening of measures against pet owners.
