Activists from "Greenpeace Bulgaria" lit a wood stove in front of the Council of Ministers. With this, they called on the state to find a solution to the problem of energy poverty by easing the procedure for installing a solar panel on the terrace. The initiative is in connection with the new prices for electricity and heat, which come into effect today, July 1. Applications for energy assistance in the winter are also due, said "Greenpeace Bulgaria".
Unfortunately, Bulgaria is in first place in terms of the percentage of energy poor among all countries in the European Union, said Desislava Mikova, an expert at "Climate and Energy". According to her, the granting of wood subsidies to the energy poor deepens the problem. She also said that the funds that are given are unjustifiably large. These aids continue the vicious cycle of energy poverty, Mikova commented.
The balcony photovoltaic system reduces household bills by up to 30%, it can produce electricity year-round, the expert added. Mikova explained that this is important because energy poverty is not a problem only in winter, but also in summer, as many households in our country fail to cool their homes. It is time for a long-term solution, Mikova also said.
"Greenpeace Bulgaria" has demands that they will state to the institutions. According to Desislava Mikova, it must be recognized that there is a problem. The state is literally "burning money" with the current model, and stoves pollute the air and make people sick, the expert commented.
